The project was done as part of the “UX Design” live workshop at ‘Domus Academy’ in conjunction with ‘Cisco’ , a world leader in network solutions.
The aim was to develop a ‘Talent Cloud’ concept for the organisation which would help boost the talent at Cisco in their work activities. Our team developed an app prototype – ‘TRUE YOU’, inspired from the theory of aligned emotional competency in a day to day work operations. Our focus was to bring forth the values & professional experience of an employee, using data visualisation.

Aim of TALENT CLOUD design investigation is to develop visual concepts and UX scenarios of digital interactive solutions (mobile and web services, communication tools, integrated systems, performances etc.) that could boost the way in which Cisco’s talent are engaged in their future work activities.

As the project allowed us to have multiple interactions with the client & mentors – the research & presentation phase was a collective effort of the team. My role was scoped towards research & prototyping the app.
As part of the brief we were given three streams of investigation for for the project viz. ATTRACT, ENGAGE & EXPLOIT.
Our team took up the stream of ENGAGE & started with the preliminary research around the organisation, the system of talent cloud & literature study on employee engagement.
After the preliminary research, we moved on to client interview for better understanding of their needs & the scope of the solution they were looking for. We also went for a field trip to the Milan Office of Cisco. There we observed the technological capacity & work place integration of people working there. After gathering the above information from the client. We looked for current research & trends in the workplace environment. A study from Google workplace, regarding the emotional sensitivity at workplace stood out the most for us. As the area of work & workplace environment was similar for both the tech companies.
Our learning from the Discover phase was summed up in the areas of “Reputation Management” and “Professional Experience”.
The engagement of an employee in a workplace like Cisco, is majorly driven by what reputation the person has acquired overtime in a workplace as he/she worked among different teams, in various roles, on a range of projects. So we wanted to smooth out the miss-alignment of the emotional competency at the workplace.
In the Define phase, we worked along the lines of “Psychological Safety” & “Empathetic Work-space”. We deducted that our solution has to be based on a value based norm, to create a safe space with the employee at the core of it. We created a manifesto for our concept.

Nobody is Perfect, So emphasise on the good.
To give a shape to the above idea we started on brainstorming concepts & sketches to create a visual map of different values. We studied the psychological theories on traits – R. Cattell et. al theory of 16 personality traits. & McCrae – Costa ‘s Big Five theory . From the study we distilled that in a tech based workplace , a persons ‘Authentic Value’ consists of – skills, work consistency, work quality & work quantity. And to gauge these values we formed a Hexagonal – 6 sided value system.

- Proactive – initiator / action-oriented / inspirational.

For its visual form, inspired by the atomic model, we create a V-Map or Value Map for an employee.
Next to express the work experience of an employee, we looked at all the information we have to show on a data visual. We wanted to mix the projects done, information on the project, project team-mates & feedback given on that project. Taking inspiration from the visual patterns on a tree trunk – showing the experience of the tree over the years – we created an E-Map or Experience Map consisting of past projects, future opportunities, project details & feedback system.
Further, we developed personas of a software engineer & a team lead to gauge their user needs & user journeys. We created various scenarios which may come up when the above two personas interact in the office. Scenarios included, recruiting a team member, assigning roles for the project, giving feedback to a teammate, finding past projects, checking values of a person, following a mentor in the organisation, keeping track of ones progress & available future opportunities.
To mapped out 3 major user journeys using the V-map & E-map in a day to day operations :
i) A Team Lead looking for new team member for a project by looking into the value system of the person.
ii) A person keeping track of his value system, his career growth & comparing his/her progress in comparison to any other person in the organisation.
iii) A person giving feedback to a team mate on a past project.
Next we worked on the wireframes for the app. We categorised the data as per the functionality they were suitable for. Next we created a list of questions which has to be answered by the app – like employee profile, team management, searching an employee, comparison of skills, project map, project info & feedback, future & available projects, a career guide, mentors e.t.c.
After the wireframes & feature lists were decided upon, we created the prototype of the app, using Pixate as a tool.
The client was submitted the above displayed presentation, along with the prototype & its video.
